Khmer National United Party ask for 3 requests to NEC on Draft Law for 2023 Elections

Phnom Penh: The National Election Committee (NEC) has issued a press release at the bilateral meeting between the NEC and the delegation for the Khmer National United Party, who has made three requests to the NEC.

In the meeting, the NEC was led by the leader of the NEC Spokesperson Team, Mr. Hang Puthea, and Mr. Tep Nytha, Secretary General of the NEC, along with six other leaders of the NEC General Secretariat. The Khmer United National Party was led by the party's president, Mr. Nhek Bun Chhay. The meeting was to discuss the draft regulations and procedures for the 7th National Assembly election in 2023.

The Khmer National United Party has asked for three requests: Associations or NGOs wishing to be observers for the National Assembly election are not permitted to wear their institution's uniform or emblem; instead, they must wear the card issued by the NEC.

The second point is to display the vote count record (Form 1102) to the public at the polling station's entrance and count ballots until the official announcement of election results, which are then distributed to political party agents present at the polling station.

The third point is concerning the candidate's certificate of registration and voter list in the commune: requesting the deletion of Article 4.5, paragraph 4.5.2.2, because the voter list is already validated by the NEC.

The Khmer National United Party explained the reasons, while Mr. Hang Puthea was happy to accept the recommendations that the party proposed in the meeting.

In the same press release, the NEC explained the legal reasons for each request raised by the party and recorded those requests for the nine members of the NECs to review.

The party indicated that their requests were written down and that the remaining concerns will be addressed at a meeting of the NEC and all parties on December 16, 2022.
